The US Covid Atlas project works to understand, archive, and represent
the often unequal impact of the pandemic in the United States.
The US Covid Atlas is a free and open-source data visualization tool, led by the Healthy Regions + Policies Lab and Center for Spatial Data Science at University of Chicago, that connects COVID case data and community indicators across the United States from its beginning to today. Our mission is to understand, archive, and represent the often unequal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The Atlas provides analytics and spatial statistics for community health data, builds open-source, community-engaged data tools, and generates public health insights toward furthering spatial and racial equity.
In addition to developing the application and generating research insights, we use the Atlas as an exploratory spatial data analysis framework to better understand how COVID-19 impacts different communities, in different ways. Forthcoming work integrates both research on COVID-resilient communities, but also on the meaningful translation of science to communities and policymakers.
