Fall Hourly Design Research Assistant
The Healthy Regions and Policies Lab at the Department of Geography & GIScience (UIUC) is seeking an undergrad or grad hourly student assistant with dynamic and creative skills to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for design and storytelling. This role will involve a variety of tasks, including user experience design projects and event coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Projects: Create visually appealing designs for community and project reports, promotional materials such as post thumbnails, and other visual and user experience design artifacts
- Peer Review and Idea Bouncing: Collaborate with product designer and other team members to brainstorm and refine design ideas
- Lab Activities: Assist in design audits, print media creation, and capturing special lab activities and events (academic schedule permitting)
- Archival Work: Assist in organizing and preserving existing lab projects and materials
Qualifications
- Proficiency in design software (preferably Figma and Canva)
- Experience with working on design projects from inception to completion
- Time commitment of about 10 hours weekly (min: 8 hrs, max: 12 hrs)
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Passion for storytelling and creative projects and openness to learn on the go
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with video creation (camera skills) and post-production (preferably DaVinci Resolve)
- Experience with organizing and archiving important documents
